Toxoplasmosis

A common infection caused by a parasite which can be found in undercooked meats and the poo of infected cats. It can also be found in soil that has been contaminated by cat poo, and in unpasteurized goat’s milk, or caught by handling pregnant sheep and lambs. Usually it does not cause any symptoms, but can cause a flu-like illness. It can cause serious problems if you have a weakened immune system, or catch it for the first time during pregnancy. In pregnancy it can cause miscarriage or health problems for the baby. It can be treated with antibiotics.
